Bought for £75 as a boxes of bits and a rolling
chassis
Now undergoing extensive repairs and
rebuild/re-paint/re-chrome.
named "Tanner"
because of the 6P in the registration number
(a tanner was the nickname for an old UK coin -
sixpence)
From Yamaha's database, its the 500th one built.
It looks like it was taken off the road because the
piston was breaking up. It had been standing for a
considerable time as a lot of the parts were very rusty.
Various bodges have been found during the initial strip down. The rear sprocket is almost smooth - devoid
of teeth! A few parts (rear mudguard, headlamp and
headlight mountings) have been painted in black - very
badly. The exhaust system is rotted through quite badly
and it will require extensive welding if its to be
re-used. Right now the bike has been hastily put back
together to enable a list of required parts to be drawn
up. I was given a "low" mudguard for the bike
which I think maybe off a TY175, but that's the one I
will use for the rebuild as primarily the bike will only
be used on the road.
Already I have bought some parts off E-Bay for the
bike;
Seat, wiring harness, oil tank, another headlight
(also in black....hmmm)
a new exhaust pipe from the US at great expense. I recently bought a new
piston &
rings so its just been rebored.
A whole heap of the parts have been sand or bead
blasted;
Cylinder head, barrel, headlight bowl,
headlight mounts, chain guard, chain guide
engine skid plate,
number plate/light mounting, rear light base etc.
