I own 2 sports/touring Kawasaki's, a GPZ500s and a ZZR600. One is twin cylinder the other is 4 cylinder. |
|
They have totally different characters in the way they ride! :) |
| For a 500cc twin it goes
remarkably well! Since obtaining the bike it has been stripped to
the frame and the frame was re-painted in satin metallic grey (as
standard) . All the brackets and ironwork were re-painted and all new
cadmium nuts and bolts were used. The bike looks like its about 2-3
years old and surprises a lot of people about it real age. Within 100 miles the aftermarket exhaust system had melted through the belly pan. So I'm in the process of cutting it into two pieces and re-joining it with an aluminium heat reflector, In reality - I think the bike looks better without it :) The only other thing it needs is an "aeroquip" style front brake hose as the front brake is 'spongy' despite new pads, brake fluid and being bled 10 times. From the miles I've covered on it, its looking like its doing 50-55miles per Gallon (UK), and 80mph is a nice cruising speed. |
| Came as a non-runner which had been standing a while -
outside, mainly the none running was electrical problems - more on that
later. Also there was water in the engine (blocked breather) and the
brakes were seized. It had a complete re-commission, new oils in
everything, lube chain, overhaul all the brake calipers. Then the main
job - replace a "chunk" of missing wiring harness alongside
the headlamp inside the fairing. A squirrel has nested INSIDE the
fairing and had eaten away an 6-9" section of the main harness -
copper conductors included! I used a section of a car wiring harness and 'replaced' the individual wires, colour for colour... slow laborious exercise, but got there in the end... It runs well, I'm waiting for summer to kick in, then I'll balance the carbs for that final touch... but I'm already impressed :) |
