Oooerrr, I've managed to do 200 miles now since the M.O.T inspection. The back brake has improved immensely, the battery is holding a charge too! On a small ride the other day, the gear lever fell off - had to walk back and find it :). I bought a new primary chain and fitted that - still seemed a bit slack but its the right chain and the sprockets are fine - oh well. While I was "in there" I saw that the inside of this engine is rusty! On the clutch plates and the steel parts its obvious they have been wet before and the oil definitely had a trace of bronze in it - Hmmmm. There's a tiny oil leak from the gearbox output shaft area - I think its from the clutch pushrod seal, but its doing a marvelous job of keeping the chain oiled. I've changed the oil, and I'll check it again in another 100 miles or so to see if its getting more bronze, obviously a worry. I had to go to the DVLO to get the log-book changed to my new address, its classification changed to "Historic" and a new tax disk "£nil" thats what I like to see. I've dated all the engines I have, seemingly - the one I have currently fitted is a 1959/1960 D7 with battery. It looks increasingly that the frames and engines I have are not "pairs" - only my original engine and frame are "matched" - damn!
